Utterly Horses Hullabaloo Part Three - The First Day!

Before we knew it, the first REAL day of the Utterly Horses Hullabaloo 2014 was upon us!

After Thursday's antiques, which involved four of us moving this fibre glass horse down the stairs in the lecture hall and to the front of the room,

we all had to be up, fed and out for the day for 8:30am as newcomers arrived for their live show. I was also the first person to do a talk at the Hullabaloo for this year, so it felt like I was 'opening' the festival with my talk at 10am! I spoke about simple customising for beginners including do's and don'ts. In the lecture hall area was where Donna and Kelly were based, where I had an accidental purchase...

And I also got to see the Night Heather and Moonlit Dale I had painted for Kelly. I will share more photos of this pair soon, I kept quiet about them when I painted them. These two ended up going to auction on the Saturday night where they both sold for £90.

Kelly had so many of her models and sculptures on display, and many creative ways to do so! My favourite by far was this amazing solar-panelled rotating disk.

I had a customer pick up a model horse from me back in the See, Sell and Shop marquee early in the morning before the newcomer live had started; I had as a commission piece for them to pick up, where they then proceeded to show it in the show that day. As the day progressed, she came to find me in the afternoon to inform me that the model had taken custom champion in the show!

The custom was shown as a Welsh X Thoroughbred, just like the real horse he was based off, and the judges obviously really appreciated this cross combination. The next day, in the Open Live Show, he also BMECS qualified. This was such a fine achievement as this show had 42 entrants for the day... Can you imagine just HOW many horses were in the marquee that day?!

I am so happy for the owner of this model, who is receiving it for their birthday and their sister just happened to show it for them. It is a nice touch that she will be receiving him with the prizes!

In the live show tent, there was also the scene competitions for each day. I had to take a photo of this one, it is a replica of Miley Cyrus' 'Wrecking Ball'. How fun!

There was another area to the UHH this year, apart from the live show tent, lecture the
atre, arty area and the UH shop... Becky had hired some mini jumps for people to go over and these were such a great success!

After the raffle was called for the day at 4pm, people tend to wrap up and leave for the day... Then before we knew it, it was dinner time! And the dessert for the day was this GORGEOUS pavlova...

Hey, I did tell you I would be food-blogging too, lol!

Part Four will come shortly...
